As 2023 comes to an end, we reflect on the incredible journey of the past year and even the past almost 14 years! It's been a year filled with challenges, triumphs, and most importantly, the unwavering spirit of the Haitian people and the children we serve.

Haiti, a nation already grappling with poverty and political unrest, faced further trials in 2023. Gang violence, rising fuel and food costs, and natural disasters impacted communities across the country. The United Nations estimates that 5.2 million people, nearly half the population, currently require humanitarian assistance. Gang violence has displaced about 200,000 residents and killed 3,000 people this year alone, with 1,500 more kidnapped for ransom in 2023. Source

At Brit's Home, we witnessed this resilience firsthand in the smiles and determination of our children. They continued to pursue their education, participated in extracurricular activities with enthusiasm, and supported each other through thick and thin. Their unwavering spirit served as a constant source of inspiration for us all.

Nurturing Future Leaders

Our mission at Be Like Brit remains unchanged: to raise, support and empower the next generation of Haitian leaders. Through quality education, healthcare, and a nurturing environment, we strive to equip our children with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

In 2023, we made significant strides towards this goal. We expanded our educational programs, project-based learning, and trilingual education. We also strengthened our healthcare services, ensuring our children have access to the care they need. The children began working and learning entrepreneurial skills for their futures. 

The results have been remarkable. Our children are excelling academically, demonstrating leadership qualities, and developing a deep sense of social responsibility. They are no longer just surviving; they are thriving, and their bright futures give us immense hope for Haiti's tomorrow.

As we step into 2024, we do so with optimism and a renewed sense of purpose. The challenges Haiti faces may persist, but the spirit of its people and the dedication of our supporters will never falter.
